Jingcheng Equipment | Winter Maintenance of Water Jet Equipment

2026-05-11

Before long, the Major Cold solar term will arrive, and this winter feels particularly long and cold. In winter, the maintenance of high-pressure water equipment is very important. If the equipment is not properly maintained, freezing temperatures may cause serious damage to it. The packing box may also freeze due to trapped water, thereby causing damage to the packing box, combination valve, plunger, and valve block.

To prevent the system from freezing, all water in the pipelines, booster pump, and water tank must be drained, and antifreeze should be added to the packing box. If the equipment will be idle during winter, the following steps for freeze protection of the plunger pump and pipelines should be taken.

Winter Maintenance Steps for Equipment

  1. Drain the water tank.

  2. Disconnect the water supply hose and high-pressure water discharge hose connected to the hydraulic end valve block.

  3. Drain the water from the hydraulic end valve block, then close the drain port.

  4. Attach a funnel device to the pipe connection.

  5. Install this funnel device at the water inlet end of the hydraulic end valve block.

  6. Pour ethylene glycol antifreeze into the funnel. Pour a total of about 0.5 gallons (2 liters).

  7. Turn the reset switch to the ON position to bypass the low-water level shutdown state.

  8. Before restarting the engine, check the drain end fitting of the hydraulic end valve block to ensure it is clear. Antifreeze will drain from this end.

  9. Start the engine.

  10. Gently engage the clutch and apply light pressure in the starting direction. Observe the plunger moving back and forth, and the antifreeze slowly discharging from the valve block end.

  11. After the antifreeze is completely drained from the drain end, disengage the clutch and turn off the engine.

  12. Remove the funnel from the water inlet end and reconnect the water inlet hose.

  13. Disconnect the water lubrication line from the packing box and drain the line completely.

  14. (For equipment equipped with a booster pump) Disconnect the drain line from the booster pump, drain the water from the line, and then reconnect the line.

  15. Flush the antifreeze through the system once.

  16. Ensure that the water supply line is also protected against freezing.
